SUMMARY:FBA/BSP
DESCRIPTION:Functional Behavioral Assessment & Behavior Support Planning (FBA/BSP) (Virtual) \nFunctional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) is a process for identifying the events that reliably predict and maintain problem behavior. A Behavior Support Plan (BSP) then takes the observations made in an FBA and turns them into a concrete plan of action for managing a student’s behavior. This three-part training will focus on practical approaches to developing effective FBAs and BSPs. First will be a focus on developing the systems capacity for developing FBA/BSPs. Attendees will then have an opportunity to develop an FBA for a selected student and leave with a plan to finalize the FBA back at school. At subsequent sessions\, participants will have the opportunity to revisit the FBA developed and refine it or change it as well as practice how to develop a Behavior Support Plan from the FBA. As a result\, individuals will gain competency in both facilitating and conducting this process. \nWho should attend? A team (at least two people) consisting of staff who are selected by their School Leadership Team to develop the capacity to conduct FBA/BSPs\, including those with expertise working with students with challenging behavior (counselors\, behavior specialists\, etc.) \nPlease note this is a three-part training: November 4th\, November 18\, and December 2nd from 9:00am – 1:00pm (with breaks) \n\n\nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Restorative Practices within MTSS
DESCRIPTION:For over a decade\, Vermont schools have been building a multi-tiered system of supports framework for social and academic achievement. The interest around the use of restorative approaches nationally and in Vermont schools continues to grow. A restorative approach involves principle-based processes and practices that can be applied to help things go right as well as respond when things go wrong. This whole-school approach links well within the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) framework. This workshop will serve as an introduction to aligning PBIS with Restorative Practices. Participants will recall their current understanding of key elements of restorative approaches and PBIS; deepen their understanding of restorative practices at all three tiers with a focus on application at the universal level; learn when and when not to use restorative practices; and learn how to apply a restorative approach to their existing PBIS framework. Fidelity and outcomes measures will be introduced.   Who should attend? VTPBIS Leadership Teams including school administrators and PBIS Coordinators at the school and/or SU/SD level \n\n\nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Applying the Check-in/Check-out Intervention to Meet Different Needs in Different Environments Webinar
DESCRIPTION:PBIS schools implementing the Check-in/Check-out (CICO) intervention know that it can be quite successful in meeting the needs of students who demonstrate problem behavior related to adult or peer attention. CICO works because it adds to following elements to the student’s day: \n\nIncreased positive interactions with adults throughout the day;\nAdditional structure to the school day; and\nInstruction and practice in self-monitoring of behavior.\n\nHow can we extend CICO support to a remote or hybrid learning environment or during non-instructional routines? How can we apply CICO to address the needs of students with internalizing challenges or students who experience trauma? This session will demonstrate how the critical features of CICO can be an effective intervention in supporting students with differing needs in differing environments. \nWho should attend? Individuals working in a PBIS school that is currently implementing Check-in/Check-out. \n\n\nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Crisis Prevention Forum and Discussion: Returning to School In the COVID-19 Era
DESCRIPTION:As we plan to return to school in whatever form that may take\, supporting our most vulnerable students who have impulse control issues and social\, emotional\, and behavioral concerns will present educators with a variety of new challenges. \nHow do we prepare to support these students and plan for and respond to those challenges in creative ways? How do we maintain a safe environment for staff and students? How do we meet the requirements of Rule 4500 when working with students whose behavior may require physical management or seclusion? \nThis web-based forum will provide an opportunity for facilitated small group discussions. We will ask participants to share their thinking and plans. It will primarily be an opportunity for discussion\, sharing of ideas\, and problem solving by educators from schools throughout Vermont. \n \n\nRegister Here
